Honoring the women whose leadership strengthens our court and community

Women’s History Month

Celebrating Women’s History Month

Each March, Cleveland Housing Court joins communities across the nation in recognizing Women’s History Month, a time to reflect on the achievements, leadership, and lasting contributions of women throughout American history.

Women have played a vital role in shaping our legal system, strengthening public institutions, serving communities, and advancing fairness, access, and accountability in civic life. Their work continues to influence the courts, the legal profession, public administration, education, advocacy, and the systems that support the wellbeing of our communities.

Throughout the month, Cleveland Housing Court will feature women whose service, leadership, and professionalism help advance the Court’s mission and contribute to the administration of justice.

Heather Veljkovic

Chief Magistrate

Heather Veljkovic began her legal career at the Housing Court in 2000 after graduating from CSU Law. She was a judicial clerk, staff attorney, and later a Magistrate with the Housing Court. She was then the Deputy General Counsel for the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, focusing on real estate matters, property damage litigation, and Workers' Compensation and additionally provided legal counsel related to the implementation of the new Toll Collection System.

Heather recently returned to the Housing Court as the Chief Magistrate. She and her husband, Milos—also an attorney—have three children: Ivana (studying molecular genetics at OSU), Daniela (a pre-nursing student at CSU), and Jovan (currently wants to be an attorney, but in 8th grade could very likely change his mind).

During Women’s History Month, Cleveland Housing Court proudly recognizes Heather Veljkovic for her exemplary career in law and public service, her commitment to fairness and equity, and her continued leadership in upholding justice within our community.
